BOOKvember

Apart from Mr B, we don't have the skills to grow a moustache quite yet (or we wouldn't want to) so instead of MOvember, Room Four is turning November into BOOKvember!

For the month of November, we are aiming to read for 15 minutes every night.  Parents will sign our calender, and those who bring their completed calender back at the end of the month will get a prize.

BOOKvember runs along side BOOK WEEK which is coming up in week 4 and 5!

Keep checking out the blog to find out some of the books we have been reading during BOOKvember, and our recommendations about them.

More ON THE JOB!

After seeing the picture above, the Room Four children wrote a short piece of writing relating to it.  Here are two examples of what they wrote!

I was in a police car.  We had to go and catch these three men who were doing drugs.  We caught one of them and put him in the car but he got out and was on the run.  He jumped over a fence and went into a house to try and call his mates.  We found him and caught him again so he went to jail.  He broke out of jail and is still on the run today…

By Thomas K

'Faster faster' I said quietly.  'Oh no, the police are catching up.  Oh no, they have guns.' 'Come on hand me your gun' I said to Jessie.
'NO!' yelled Jessie, 'I am trying to drive stupid!'
'Yea, I know that but I am trying to shoot but the only problem is I don't have a gun,' I replied.
'I AM NOT GIVING YOU THE GUN!!' Jessie yelled back.
'Ok man, I get it, ok?  It's ok any way, I will hit them with this sack then.  YAY I got them and they have stopped.' I breathed a sigh of relief.
'...THAT WAS THE MONEY YOU STUPID EGG!!!' yelled Jessie!

Made Awards Finalists

We are very excited in Room Four as we recently found out that we are finalists in the Made Awards Year 4-6 Music Video category.

Jessie and Thomas H are attending as our student representatives and hopefully some others from the class will be able to come as well!

Patrick, Iman and Kyree from Room Four were also part of the Film Club in Term 3, and their entry made the finals of the Year 4-6 story telling category.  How cool is that!?

The Made Awards finals are on Thursday 10th November, and 'Sophie' from Shortland Street will be the MC.

Kitchen Chemistry - Making Butter

Shaking the cream

Today in Room Four we made butter.  It is quite a simple list of ingredients as you will see!  Eating a jam sandwich with fresh home made butter was a nice way to finish the day!  We also practiced making a list of instructions.  We watched a video clip about the process of making butter, and used this information to write our own list of instructions.

Here is Jessie's list of instructions for making butter:

Title: Making butter

Goal: To make butter

Materials:
  • 150 ml Cream (leave out of the fridge for four hours so it is not cold)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Bread
  • Glass of water
  • Glass jar with a lid
  • 1 Bowl
  • 1 Cup
  • 1 Knife
Steps:

1.  Pour cream into a jar and close lid very tight
2.  Shake in nice, slow, controlled movements (about one shake every second for 3 minutes)
3.  Drain out the butter milk into a cup
4.  Pour a glass of water into your butter jar and put lid on
5.  Shake it to rinse the butter
6.  Pour out the water into a cup
7.  Add a pinch of salt and mix
8.  Spread butter onto bread
9.  EAT :)

Half way through

               Rinsing the butter
Our butter is made!

Results of our efforts!

On The Job!

Room Four are ON THE JOB first thing in the morning.  We start the day with ON THE JOB, a writing activity to get our minds working straight away.  Today Mr B showed us a video, and we had to write what happened next.

Here are some of our stories:

The fluffy cat rips off his head and takes his head to the kitchen . He pours the sticky red blood into a tall glass with ice and a lemon slice. He looks through the Brain Cook Book and he finds a perfect brain sti fry with fingers on the side.  He borrows eight juicy fingers. At the end he cooks it all with a pan of oil and coriander.

PS: Don't mess with him!

By Caitlin

The man wakes up and is very angry. The cat has given him claw marks by his eye because he wants to get fed. After he gets fed the person goes back to sleep but the cat does it again because he wants to go outside to do his business. So the man wakes up to let the cat out but when he is waiting, he falls asleep and lands on the cats business!

By Thomas H

The man wakes up and runs away from the cat.  Then the man calls the police and says that his cat attcked him.  After the police comes there, they contact the animal control group and they come and take the cat away.

By Inderdeep

The man wakes up and sees the cat playing with his ear, so he put's the cat in the naughty corner. The little fluffy cat thinks about his mistake and and writes a sorry letter. Then when the cat is sleeping the man play's with his face. They get into a big fight and the cat moves out. Then the cat comes with her boyfriend the dog and the dog attacks the man.

Our MADE awards entry

At the end of last term we made a music video to the tune of 'I'm A Believer', by The Monkees.  Earlier this year, the choir and Mr B changed the words of this song and made a song called "I'm An Achiever".
We made this into a music video as a way to teach the song to the whole school.  Mr Larsen, our principal really liked it and wants it to be the school song.  Cool eh!

We also entered it into the MADE awards, so fingers crossed we make it into the finals.  You can read more about the Made awards here.
